Lake Ouachita Fish Spawning Temperatures
The approximate temperatures that various species spawn in Lake Ouachita and in how many days to expect the first fry to emerge.
Not Stocked Anymore

Many anglers use the month of the year in reference to the spawn of a species of fish.
But keep in mind fish do not keep track of the months.
What they do is react to biological urges in their environment which are controlled by climate and conditions around them.
Water temperature and length of day may be the two main factors when fish spawn but certainty not all.
Fish do not spread out evenly in a lake they will group together in certain areas with specific characteristics.
The layout of the lake bottom, the depth, the type of bottom structure, the exposure to sunlight, water currents, available cover such as vegetation, stumps or cribs, and bottom substrate such as rocks or sand are some of the determining factors.
Even with experience on a certain lake, factors can change in a moment’s notice.
Watch for this change in your lake this fall. Because the sun can heat a greater proportion of the water in a shallow lake than in a deep lake, a shallow lake may warm up faster and to a higher temperature.
